Saturday Startup Stories: Our Journey from Rockets to Revolutionary Software

In the world of engineering, where teams are trying to push the bleeding edge of technology, the software that supports innovation should be equally pioneering. Unfortunately, the reality often falls short.

Many teams find themselves grappling with outdated systems that resemble a digital filing cabinet more than a state-of-the-art design tool.

At Flow, we envisioned something radically different, to truly match the pace and complexity of modern engineering projects. Our founder Pari, sat down with Jason Carman of the S³ Saturday Startup Stories docuseries to give a glimpse into our journey and the innovation that's driving the future of engineering.

Starting with Rocket Science

We initially embarked on a journey to revolutionize the rocket industry, rallying a group of engineers with backgrounds in F1, aerospace, and the energy industry to the cause. As Pari points out in the video, "We were deeply engrossed in building rocket engines, but the UK landscape lacked the necessary testing equipment and financial backing." It wasn't until potential investors pointed out the shift our actual approach to design could bring to the industry that we considered pivoting our focus from rockets to software.

Despite our initial hesitations, we realized the potential of our approach. The existing tools in the industry were too slow and limiting. We knew we had the chance to streamline the engineering process, enabling teams to achieve their visions more efficiently and effectively.

Flow - Bridging the Gap

Our solution, Flow, emerged from the intersection of cutting-edge engineering and software innovation. The features are built to transform the modern v-cycle process, offering:

  • Macro & Micro Views: Enabling insights from the system level down to the component level.
  • Linked & Trackable Dependencies: Facilitating a deeper understanding of requirements and their contexts.
  • Digital Twin Testing: Allowing for real-time testing of different parameters interlinked with scripts, CAD models, and physics simulations.
  • Customizable Views: Tailoring your workspace to view progress by engineer, team, milestone, or system.

During the demo session with Jason, he was particularly struck by how seamlessly the digital twin system functioned, even with complex project files. He found the speed and efficiency of the system remarkable, a testimony to the approach that Flow embodies.

The Path of Innovation

We recognized early on that the disruptive potential of Flow might be met with scepticism, given its departure from traditional engineering tools. Initially, when we managed to create thousands of variant digital twin designs for rocket engines in just hours, we, understandably, faced disbelief.

So, we adjusted our strategy, presenting Flow as a solution to a prevalent industry issue - the bottleneck of hardware engineering requirements tracking. By addressing a real and immediate problem, we found a way to introduce the market to our approach.

Breaking Boundaries

Already adopted by leading engineering teams globally, including Space Machines, Universal Hydrogen, and Brinc, Flow is poised to expand further into the US marketplace. Our next steps involve a laser focus on DoD compliance standards and unlocking unprecedented potential in engineering teams working on the frontier of technological advancement.

We're thrilled to share our journey, and Flow, with you. We want to enable teams to build the future - faster and smarter.

Thank you, Jason, for capturing our story during our visit to SF.

Here's to building a brighter, more innovative future.
